Gonzales County Texas

Established in 1836 as one of the original counties in the Republic of Texas, Gonzales County is bordered by DeWitt, Lavaca, Fayette, Caldwell, and Guadalupe counties.

Gonzales County is one of the leading agricultural counties in Texas. Beef cattle operations rank Gonzales as the top Texas County in cow-calf production in the state. This is a rich tradition in the county, with lots of history going back to the trail drives. Some of the earliest brands in the state are recorded in Gonzales County.

The Guadalupe and San Marcos river bottoms produce enough pecans to rank Gonzales in the top three or four counties in the state. Other crops grown in Gonzales are corn, grain sorghum, peanuts, watermelons, wheat and hay.
